Syslog Watcher 5.1 - Release Notes

Syslog Watcher 5.1

What’s New in Syslog Watcher 5.1

Improved Syslog Storage Performance

The significant improvement in Syslog Watcher 5.1 is how the server deletes expired syslog messages from the syslog storage. Version 5.1 constantly scans the storage throughout the day and immediately deletes the data that no longer needs to be stored. The previous version (Syslog Watcher 5.0) deleted data once a day, which led to a heavy CPU and I/O load at that moment. This overload could sometimes be the reason for the daily loss of incoming syslog messages under heavy loads. Eliminating this bottleneck increased Syslog Watcher’s performance and reduced the chance of losing incoming syslog messages.

Few Minor Features

We added the frequently requested option to drop (do not write to the syslog storage) syslog messages with a certain severity level. For example, Syslog Watcher 5.1 can drop incoming Debug messages so they do not load the syslog server and do not waste drive space.

To improve compatibility with syslog sources with non-standard formats, we added the option to skip the built-in syslog parser. Collected syslog messages will be displayed in their original form, without dividing them into parts.

Licensing

A valid Pro License with the Maintenance until November 2017 or later allows updating to Syslog Watcher 5.1.
